We Have People Who Can Run the State
-Otu Ita Toyo

Oron Union has declared its stand on the raging issue of power-shift heating up the polity of the state, saying that come 2015, Oro ethnic nationality will take its turn to produce a government in Akwa Ibom State.
This position was made known by the union through its President-General, Chief O. D. Okon, in the Annual General Conference organized by the Oron Union and held on December 26 and 27, 2011.
The conference, which attracted representations and delegates from all over the world where Oron sons and daughters reside, witnessed expressions of concerns over how the Oron Nation is being cheated and treated in the state.
The president–general complaint bitterly over the attitude of some Oron politicians who tend to allow their individual selfish interest to overshadow interest of Oron Nation as a whole, reneging on the collective decision earlier taken by the union on the 2015 governorship.
He stated that the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, had also complaint bitterly on the attitude of some Oron sons who tend to abandon the collective goal of Oro ethnic bloc, making themselves errand boys and carrying bags for men they are more qualified than with respect to being a governor, adding that Oron is no more Oron he knew, and who were so proud of themselves. Also speaking on the 2015 governorship, Chief Effiong Johnson, former council chairman of Mbo Local Government Council, stressed that there was very serious problem in Oro Nation as a result of the selfish attitude of some Oron politicians who had chosen blackmail as weapon and instrument of advancing their selfish course.
On his part, the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman and serving chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Chief Otu Ita Toyo, re-affirmed his aspiration to contest for the 2015 governorship in Akwa Ibom State.
Arc. Ita Toyo said that Oro people are of one mind toward the goal set by the Oron Union for 2015, adding that if few people are selfish enough to sell their rights, that would not stand against the interest and aspiration of the entire nation of Oro.
“We should do the best we can together to get the governorship by 2015. We should ignore the black sheep. We had always have people like that. We have several people who can run this state”, he said.
On his aspiration for 2015 governorship, the “Total Chair” as he is known and called in the state, said: “There is nobody with my qualification in the business of making governors. If Oron Nation has the like of men, how can they not produce a governor in the state by 2015?”
He enumerated instances and his roles in the emergence of late Chief Clement Isong and Chief Donald Etiebet in the defunct Cross River State, and late Obong Akpan Isemin, Obong Victor, Attah and lately Chief Godswill Akpabio in 2007 and 2011; noting that 2015 will be a pay-back season for other ethnic blocs and well meaning politicians in the state to reciprocate the efforts of Oron sons and daughters in contributing to whatever they had achieved in their lives.
He also called on the good people of the state to eschew ethnic sentiments and think, talk and act equity, justice and fairness to every section of the state.
The Oron Union urged all politicians and Akwa Ibomites of all persuasions to discourage others from living and acting negatively or contrary but should recognize the aspiration of Oro Nation for 2015 governors.
