I am using this medium to send a strong message to the outgoing government of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Obot Akpabio, that he should stop insulting the people of Mkpat Enin Local Government. First he took away their university to Ikot Asurua, constructed high-rise buildings at Ikot Asurua; took away all the engineering courses and applied sciences to Ikot Asurua, while the main campus at Mkpat Enin LGA was converted to a venue for remedial studies only. To add salt to injury, Akpabio constructed few dwaf buildings equivalent to the Igboman lock-up shops in the Mkpat Enin main campus. Up till today, Akpabio has not allowed academic work to start in the main campus of the university.
Secondly Akpabio lied last year that he has completed 250 projects in Mkpat Enin LGA, when in Actual fact Akpabio administration has not done anything for the local government since they took office about 5 years ago.
I was in the village over the weekend to discover that one useless contractor has been mobilised (in one of those money syphoning ventures) to construct a footpath that cannot conveniently pass two bicycles, and they called it a road. Event also took me to Abak and Ukana in the same day. I revisited the dual carriageway in Abak and the one going to Ukana - it was so insulting to the entire people of Mkpat Ening LGA to see the contrasts, discrimination, cheating and the derogatory treatment from Akpabio.
People who are close to Godswill Obot Akpabio should notify him to immediately demobilised that contractor, re-design the road to a 4-lane dual carriage way with drainage, and pay the same quantum of compensation he paid to his people for houses and farm lands. The road should be constructed by JBN as done in his area. Anything short of these, the contractor should leave the site within 2 weeks from today.
For the benefit of those who don't know Mkpat Enin LGA; It is one of the cash cow LGAs in Akwa Ibom State, after Eket/Ibeno; Yet it is the worst deprived by Akpabio administration. We do not want any more insults from this man, he should pack his load and vacate the state before 1st January 2012.
